New 604bhp Mercedes-AMG E 63 Estate to cost £81,130

New wild Mercedes-AMG estate goes on sale in the UK, with first deliveries this September

Mercedes has confirmed its new AMG E63 Estate will be priced from £81,130 in the UK.

Revealed earlier this year at the Geneva Motor Show, it follows up the new Mercedes-AMG E 63 saloon from November’s Los Angeles Motor Show and is available in two editions – standard E 63 4MATIC+ and the more potent E 63 S version. Prices start at £81,130, making it just over £2,000 more than its saloon bodied sibling. The more powerful, flagship E 63 S estate is price from £90,490. Order books are open now, with Mercedes targeting first deliveries this September.

Merc’s ubiquitous 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 sits under the bonnet, producing 563bhp in the standard E 63 and 604bhp in the ‘S’ badged car. With the new engine, the E 63 Estate is more powerful than its predecessor, and thanks to downsizing and cylinder deactivation technology it’s more efficient too, managing a claimed 31mpg.

The two variants offer torque figures of 750Nm and 850Nm respectively, and in terms of performance the Estate versions of the car are a tenth of a second slower to 62mph than their respective saloons. The E 63 Estate does the dash in 3.6 seconds, with the E63 S Estate managing it in 3.5.

Both are electronically bound to a 155mph top speed as standard, though the AMG Driver’s package removes the limiter, unleashing a 180mph top speed.

That’s a little behind the saloon’s 186mph v-max, but the slight performance deficit is traded off with a much larger cargo area – with all seats in place the E 63 Estate comes with 640-litres of boot space, rising to 1,820-litres if the rear pew is folded flat.

As standard both cars get Merc’s new 9-speed automatic gearbox plus 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive. Like the saloon, the system boasts continuously variable torque distribution that permits pure rear-wheel-drive, and the E 63 S Estate even comes with a ‘Drift Mode’ setting.

The AMG bodykit makes the E 63 Estate 27-millimetres wider than the standard car. The flared wheel-arches are necessary to contain the wider track, while the aprons and side sills are intended to make the Estate look low on the road. Around the back, the exhausts poking out of the rear diffuser have been tuned specifically for the Estate model.

Also part of the package is a new air suspension system, Mercedes Intelligent Drive semi-autonomous driving features, plus a cabin festooned with AMG goodies, such as performance seats and an AMG steering wheel.

From launch, an Edition 1 version of the car based on the E 63 S, featuring the AMG Night styling package, plus unique interior styling tweaks will also be available. With its unique 20-inch wheels and high level of standard equipment, it comes priced from £108,780.

On the options list, E63 S and Edition 1 customers can choose carbon ceramic brakes for £6,995, and all cars can be equipped with an AMG performance exhaust system for £1,000. Styling packs like the Carbon pack and the Night pack can be had for £3,370 or £795 respectively.
