Rear sam and both rear light units had to be changed under warranty. certain gloplugs have been changed several times (some under warranty, some not). rear o/s door handle failed and had to be replaced and it looks like it has just failed again. intake shutoff actuator motor failed and had to be replaced. front spring broke while the car was sat on the drive. my last e-class did 176k miles without half the problems I have had with this one which has only done 76k miles. Fuel is okay given the performance. spares and labour (I use a main dealer purely for convenience - they are next to a train station that I can use to get to work) are very expensive.

E-class W201 is a super machine but is let-down by the poor development of the electronic components - particularly braking and suspension (mine has self-levelling), thus causing issues of it being off the road for repair, in service/repair for longer than expected (with no courtesy car available from M-B) and constant warning messages on the fascia when nothing is wrong!
Other than that is is a great machine - if a little thirsty at the pumps, particularly when being used around town.

Starts first time in any weather.so far never broken down.only niggle is front discs are drilled and the wholes fill up with brake dust. The only niggle is the cost of fuel. when first got the car it cost 90 to fill its from empty gone up to 115.serving is not to bad once a year the only killer is 3 year old 40000 miles when its a over 1100 pounds due to the gear box, brake fluid only done once at that age.

Although only a few months old this car surpasses expectations of an owner who is on his fifth mb. For a v6 diesel with bags of performance an average of 40mpg is about 25% more than I had expected when I considered purchasing it (the car manages 54mpg on motorway driving). it was not solely purchased for its cheap running costs but for a car of this calibre the running costs are extremely acceptable.

A very stylish car, great performance and handling. Things that let it down are small things like not having cup holders and also the surface over the dashboard slopes so you can't place anything on top. Generally the build quality is excellent but again small details let it down such as the supporting gas struts for the tailgate fail after a short time.

I have had troubles with the brakes suspension and electrics but overall it has been very reliable. Considering the size of the engine and the "prestige" make of the car I don't think the running costs are excessive but I do not use a main dealer for repairs etc.

because I am retired this car has to last me.
I am amazed that my 320E will do a lot better mileage than many smaller engined cars on a run. The brand speaks a lot about the confidence you put on the safety you feel when you drive.
very satisfied.

For the money and mileage on my car when I bought it only 20k miles with Full Service History, I am absolutely delighted. Only wish it had Sat Nav. Telephone wiring and bluetooth cradle is great and works well on my E280CDI. Next

I have always had W124 series cars, saloon, estate and now the coupe, none has ever let me down, possibly the best designed and manufactured car ever. The boot on the coupe shames most credible hatchbacks for capacity.

Comfortable, surprisingly economical for a medium-sized saloon with a 2.2l engine.
Hate the foot-operated parking brake.
Love the speed limiter functionality.
Miss rear seats that fold down.
