This is the first official image of the new Honda Civic, which will make its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a few weeks' time.

Although this is the only picture the Japanese firm has chosen to release, it does reveal that the the Ford Focus rival gets a dramatic new rear-light bar.
Designers have moved the tailights higher up on the body and incorporated a single bar which continues to split the rear window and runs all the way across the screen. The lights themselves appear to be made up of LEDs too.
The rest of the rear end appears to be influenced by models such as the Insight, losing the angular slashes of the current Civic. Honda promises that the new compact family car will be very aerodynamic – Honda has called on the expertise of its ex-Formula One engineers – while it says it has significantly improved the car's ride and refinement.
The new Civic will go on sale in the UK in January.

Surely with competition from Hyundai, Kia and other emerging or newly enhanced brands, Honda should be looking to produce cars that inspire. Even the new CRZ lacks something - it looks weak (from a design/visual perspective) particularly at the front, while the new civic just doesn't hold together at all. It's nice to have some nice detailing - such as the new 'bar' light on the new model - but the whole package needs to work. Lose the gimmicky detailing and give us practical, visually appealing and market leading cars .... like you used to....
This looks as though it will be a long, flatter version of the current Civic.
Really akdesign, when you say the new civic doesn't hold together at all, do you mean the current civic which has been very successful, or the new one you haven't seen yet!!
totally disagree with 1st comment - how can you say the CRZ looks weak - Its one of the boldest looking cars on the road today and the sweeping comments about the new Civic 'not working' are stupid and irrelevant since the car has not been unveiled to the public yet as mentioned by 'fatbloke1963'
Another boring,bland, sleep inducing honda.
No soul, no style, no good.
Honda produce some of the most reliable cars, but you have to love the way it looks just as much.
Not for me.
So toycollector you can tell by this picture it has no style, no soul, and is no good. What cars do you think have style, no don't bother i think we can all guess! Your obviously a complete idiot. Why do you bother coming on here. you just make yourself sound like a complete twat!
Honda have recently lost the plot, like alot of Japanese companies, the products are very good but not cuttting edge.
In term of quality cars, they need to look at what the German competition is doing.
From this very angle the rear at least looks like its an evolution design. There is no doubt the current Civic has been a sales success. I have one and love it. The packaging and practicality cannot be matched by any car in this sector. By this is mean the boot, hidden boot, leg room, magic seats, glove box, cubbies, etc. It has more space than my BMW 3 Series. Where the current car is a major let down is comfort. Compared to the Golf which I also drive, the ride is way too harsh and bumpy. I really hope they have resolved this. Another let down is the overall feel of quality. I certainly like the way the Golf feels in terms of build. It is a surprise to see Honda have kept the split screen. This does hinder the rear view. At least they have taken the feedback from customers regarding the wiper. The lights on the rear and split screen is certainly an evolution design to the current car. I hope the front has a less steep bonnet as my current version gets battered by stone chips. The engine and gear box is the best attribute on the Honda, clean super amounts torque
Do these designers ever drive these cars in normal driving conditions? That bar splitting the rear window is the work of a complete moron. Travel at night and you will be distracted by following cars headlights seemingly flashing at you when in effect they are blocked momentarily by this stupid bar on the rear of the Civic. If they must have this bar why not move it to the top of the window where it is not visible from inside the car?
I am sure many current owners will be hoping for a return to the legendary Honda reliability in addition to the promised improvements for the new model Civic
