September 2011

Rolls Royce was showing off its star power at the Frankfurt show, with two celebrities taking the wraps off the new Ghost extended-wheelbase, and a special movie version of the Phantom.

Dubbed 'Royce' this special Phantom Coupe has been fitted with a 9.0-litre V16 engine - only three of which were ever built - and as its appearing in the new Johnny English film, actor Rowan Atkinson was on hand to take the covers off.

The firm's latest production car, a stretched version of the 'entry-level' Ghost, was also on display, and you can read our drive of the baby Phantom here

Also joining the luxury British brand was photographer Ian Rankin, who has taken a collection of 100 portraits to celebrate the centenary of the iconic 'Spirit of Ecstasy' hood ornament, and spoke to CEO Torsten Muller-Otvos live on the show stand, while a collection of his pictures decorated the VIP lounge.

Yell it will replace his Aston Martin V12 DB7 which drove from the last movie. Well how about switching Bond on this car or a Bentley instead of Lotus or BMW.

The EWB Ghost might seem to be something of a contradiction, if the Ghost was the smaller, cheaper, lighter, more powerful, more agile, more sporty version of the Phantom. Now the EWB will be heavier, less agile, less fun to drive. It will also be dearer than the std Ghost, so why not simply plump for a Phantom? Ah, those people that in fact struggle with these decisions.......
