LIVE: Koenigsegg Agera at Geneva 2010

Birthday presents don’t come much better than this! To celebrate 15 years as a supercar maker, Koenigsegg has introduced the Agera, a carbon-fibre missile capable of more than 245mph.

Taking its name from the Swedish verb ‘to act’, the newcomer shares its roots with the original CC supercar. However, thanks to the firm’s policy of continuous improvement, the new model benefits from 15 years of tweaks.

The styling is a careful evolution of the original CC. So the dihedral swivelling doors and targa roof panel that can be removed and stowed under the front bonnet remains. New features include daytime running lights, updates to improve the aerodynamics and rear lights which include vents to remove heat from the engine bay.

Under its rear clamshell is the latest 910bhp 4.7-litre engine designed and built by Koenigsegg. The unit is twin-turbocharged, and produces its maximum 1,100Nm of torque at 5,100rpm. However, 1000Nm is available from just 2,680rpm, ensuring devastating in-gear performance. 0-62mph takes just 3.1 seconds.

To keep the Agera on the road, the car features what Koenigsegg claims to be the fastest acting traction control in the industry. The system is adaptive, adjusting itself to the driving conditions. Specially-developed Michelin tyres and enormous ceramic brakes with manually adjustable ABS intervention are also included.

Koenigsegg interiors are often packed with innovative features, and the new car is no exception. Alongside a new multifunction instrument cluster, the interior is illuminated by Ghost Light, which uses nanotubes to shine through the car’s aluminium buttons.

The Agera has six more months of development work to go through before it is signed off for production. The car will be built alongside the firm’s CCX and CCXR models, and prices are likely to comfortably exceed £1million.
