Five-door Skoda Citigo has made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show

March 2012

Skoda has released first pictures of the five-door version of its Citigo city car, ahead of its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Changes are limited to the additional set of doors, so the engine line-up consists of the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with 60bhp or 74bhp.

As with the recently unveiled Volkswagen up! five-door, Skoda expects the majority of Citigo sales to be the five-door version.

Prices will be about £400 more than the three-door Citigo, which should mean a starting price-tag of just under £8000.

The five-door Skoda Citigo will go on sale alongside the three-door model from May this year.

Great looking little car

But I hope they make a vRS version like what VW have done with the Up GT - I think the Citigo looks better.

Doubt if VW will let them though.

Interesting solid rear windows

It is interesting that by using the pop-out windows at the rear, there isn't the need to have a quarter-light and sliding window that would be necessary. Somebody else also commented on a vRS version. If VW go ahead with the Up! GTI (as opposed to the currently slated Up! GT) then I would imagine that a vRS version would be popular. I still reckon a taller grille on the front of this would make it a fraction more handsome. The Up! looks "different", the CitiGo looks "sober" or "refined" in comparison. The Seat version (based on views of the 3-door) retains more of a family look, just being a tiny Seat.

I would like to have seen a rear three-quarter shot of this Skoda as well, as the front is not the bit that is distinctive between the 3- and 5-door variant.

Should be interesting to see if a mild hybrid, electric or plug-in hybrid is offered like VW have suggested for the Up!

This car needs more power in a sports version!

I've heard that VW will share the Up GT engine with Skoda and Seat but Skoda say they're not going to use it - WHY?!

I hope Skoda don't follow the 'Monte Carlo' route with this car like they have the Fabia - i.e. lots of sporty cosmetic stuff but no substance. Drop the Halfords add-ons and improve the car where it matters!

Daihatsu returns...

I thought I was going to like this car, I like most Skoda's but actually the in main pic above this car looks like the Daihatsu Charade. Most ungainly and deathly dull. Shame, along with the hideously lanky and blobby Fabia, this is another small Skoda that doesn't appeal.

Hang on a second.....

Wasn't this supposed to be a really cheap car in the region of 6k? All of a sudden it comes to release and it costs more than my wife's fiat 500 did brand new in 2008!!! No matter what is said, 8 grand is not cheap for an entry level car of this size. Not sure about these so called city cars these days...a few years ago superminis like my Clio were considered to be ideal city cars but now we are expected to believe it would be better to pay what we used to pay for a supermini for a much smaller machine
