Ford has released first official pictures of its production B-MAX. The Fiesta-based MPV will make its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, a full year after it first appeared as a concept.

The good news is that the original show model’s clever packaging will make production. The B-pillars are integrated into the sliding doors, allowing for huge 1.5-metre long openings. Also carried over are flat-folding seats that help the B-MAX offer class-leading cabin space.

Expect class-leading tech, too, such as keyless entry, Bluetooth and voice control in top-spec models, while the show car’s panoramic glass roof will also appear in the final version as an optional extra.

The B-MAX’s exterior design deliberately echoes that of the larger C-MAX, with a similar front-end treatment on a car that's only 110mm longer and marginally taller than the Fiesta on which it's based.

The car will also showcase Ford’s new three-cylinder engine – the 1.0-litre direct-injection EcoBoost turbo, with 99bhp or 123bhp. A range of diesels will be available, too.

This will be the first Ford built at the company’s new factory in Craiova, Romania. It’s set to go on sale in September; and prices will start at around £12,000.

EcoBoost - more power in the Focus

Looks like the EcoBoost 1.0 litre engines lost 3-4bhp in the move from Focus to B-Max.
Also, will all C-Max models have sliding doors in future?

EcoBoost - more power in the Focus

Think you're forgetting that power expressed in PS always translates to a few BHP less. Manufacturers always quote PS these days. To convert from PS to BHP you multiply by 0.9863 i.e. 100PS = 98.63 BHP etc.

RE: Flyboy

Ah, but if you read the news item 'Ford Focus 1.0 EcoBoost prices' they talk about 127bhp and 101bhp - so either the change of installation has lost some power, someone forgot to use the correct units/do the conversion in the Focus story or did the conversion here when the figures were already converted.

C-Max shrunk in the wash

Not sure of the looks. Just like a scaled down version of the C-Max but so much better looking than the monstrosity that is the Grand C-Max. Ford seem to have done a much better job of incorporating sliding rear doors into a much smaller package....strange that !!
