Nissan Invitation concept

The Nissan Invitation concept has been revealed at Geneva

Nissan Invitation

March 2012

The all-new Nissan Invitation supermini MPV stole the show at its unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show.

As the wraps came off the sporty newcomer, which is set to replace to the Note, Nissan announced the car would be built in Britain, with the help of almost £10m in Government funding. The money, alongside a £125m investment from Nissan, will create 400 jobs at its Sunderland plant when the car goes into production later this year.

The five-door hatchback, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show by Business Secretary Vince Cable, will go up against the Ford Fiesta, according to a Nissan spokesman. Nissan Executive Vice President Andy Palmer told visitors it would also boast a technological first for its class.

“The car will showcase our around view monitor safety system, which will significantly reduce the stress of parallel parking, and be a first in this segment,” he said. He added it would come with class-leading fuel consumption and emissions - expect the new Note to come with an engine range similar to its predecessor’s – meaning 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines, plus a 1.5-litre diesel.

Expect the new Note to come with an engine range that’s similar to its predecessor’s – meaning 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol engines, plus a 1.5-litre diesel.

There’s also speculation that it will make use of the 97bhp 1.2-litre supercharged three-cylinder DIG-S petrol engine from the Micra. This includes stop-start technology and emits 99g/km in the Micra, which is a similar emissions target that Nissan is aiming for with the Note.

We can expect to see the production Note some time in late 2013, and prices will start from around £12,500.

pie in the sky SH-TE.onward & upward? you MUST be joking.

as if that interior makes production @ £12.5k??? my sept. 10reg qashqai+2; new front discs@3k km., underbody v badly corroded, needs full coat protective underbody sealer,[nissan want me to pay 50% of cost, what a laugh] ,front passenger window can barely close because of crap winder motor, drivers side speaker distorts like hell, clutch judder when cold, now strange metallic zinging noise when accelerator pressed when stationery & when pulling off? noisy, sticking pano roof blind when opening/closing. good on you Nissan, most rear shocks on early qashqais replaced under warranty. this new pile of SH-TE from Nissan is really something to look forward to, i cant wait. BTW, i actually had to litterally fight Nissan Ireland for new discs after 3k km., car was NOT, as ''experts'' in Nissan ireland suggested, either driven through a flood, or on the beach?????. they even asked me if i lived near the sea?? what a pack of f---ing jokers.

Innovation seems to have taken a step back...

OMG can't believe that's going to be the new Nissan Note.

Since I started driving we've had 2 Nissan Notes 57 and 60 plates and have been perfectly happy with them.

They have been perfect on both inside and outside, however if this thing is going to replace them we might have to look elsewhere.

Firstly can't believe Nissan seemed to have taken out the centre console storage box, it was perfect that for storing phones in with it's USB connectivity and in such a position that anyone could easily get to it without disturbing the driver, plus it was a perfect position to rest a TomTom without leaving TomTom marks on the window if you didn't like Nissan's satnav.

Also the lights at the rear - what happened? It's so much more reassuring that the lights are so high on the Note, the fact that everyone can easily see your lights from behind, including truck drivers.

The only one thing that I do hope they've done is increase the amount of towing weight on the automatic because 750kg is ridiculous unless your towing a trailer tent.

Guess we may be looking for a different car when our lease comes up for renewal in 2013.

Concept looks nice and the body style may remain into production

But the interior will revert to the elephant's-ar$e plastics we've come to expect from Nissan.
Interesting comments earlier about QashQow reliability. My father-in-law bought a Skoda Yeti in preference to a Qashqai and has had no problems. I'll mention this to him and make him feel even more smug.

Now we know ...

... who pinched the Civic front end.

Oi Nissan, give it back!!

Ideas above their station

As often the case with Nissan.. (look at the cube)
But.. actually this looks like a big improvement over the very bland Note which is so bland it makes me cry. We'll see if the finished article is as good.

Boseman

Wow! - how did this happen after the bland Micra???
Now all we need is a competitive warranty.

Errr

Not "too" bad - certainly better than the awful Note, but "Invitation"? are they having a laugh? That's worse than the Toyota "Picnic" of a few years ago. What next the Proton "Pensioner"...They call this Invitation and it will put off the majority of buyers, I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face if I had to say I drove an "Invitation" - would put a whole new slant on Kerb Crawling too...

By JamesRiley on 7 March, 2012, 8:18am

Just call it Note!

Agree with above comment....Invitation is a stupid name and hopefully for the concept only. It's a replacement for the Note after all, so why not just call it Note? Also, I don't believe the current Note to be bland. It's been around a while and it's popularity probably dilutes it's distinctiveness a little but it's still much better looking than the Renault Modus and Vauxhall Meriva.

Love child

looks like the love child of a Honda civic and a volvo v60.

not bad parents to have though.

By carlw437 on 9 March, 2012, 8:30am

HaHaHaHa!

Why have Nissan copied the styling from Honda's Civic?(at the front ) Are their designers on something :-)? That rear corner set-up of lights, side windows, pillars and rear screen, is terrible, just a mix of angles that don't fit in with the rest of the car..As for the name, "Nissan WISE UP".The rear end and name of this car are just a big joke Apart from these points I think that Honda have done A fine job with this car...oh sorry i mean Nissan

By deemac17 on 9 March, 2012, 2:33pm

Is that the MG3's rear end?

Or Volvo? Or both? Nothing's new. Still, we need the work.

Invitation Concept

Invitation would appear only to be a Concept name...I would suggest that the name will revert to 'Note' when it makes production. ......as for 'brendan's comments....I have heard of reliability issues with the quashqai.... but 3k out of a set of front discs! what were you doing man! driving with your foot permanantly on the brakes!.....hope you get it all sorted...let ud know your reg. so I steer clear of it when it hits the s/h market! LOL

By pete_jal on 9 March, 2012, 8:36pm

a Japanese maker copying a Japanese maker?...

Surely not? I mean this is surely never going to happen? what is the world coming to? I honestly do not know what to do with myself at the shock of a Nissan looking similar to a Honda or vice versa, I mean... this has never happened before. And to think in the 80's and 90's we had such individual style from these two giants of the automotive world who produced vehicles that were in no way derivative or in any way out and out copies of other, say, older, more established western manufacturers. To think this could happen in this day and age?
