The lid has been lifted on the SsangYong XIV-2 convertible concept at the
Geneva Motor Show. President and CEO Yoo-il Lee told visitors: “This SUV Coupe represents a whole new segment; a passenger car that’s also a coupe, and a convertible.”
With its chunky frame and roll back soft top and rear screen, it certainly sports a unique look. The bold styling on the the XIV-2 (which stands for eXciting user Interface Vehicle 2) is the most progressive design yet from the South Korean firm, with aggressive front and rear styling, muscular haunches and a clever opening roof.
The thick C-pillars and rising waistline echo the Range Rover Evoque, a model that this car intends to tackle head-on. Its overall dimensions show that it’s slightly smaller than the Range Rover, with a 2,600mm wheelbase (against the Evoque Coupe’s 2,660mm) that bodes well for strong dynamics and performance.
The SsangYong XIV-2 will be powered by 1.6-litre diesel and petrol engines and is expected on sale in 2014 if the concept is given the green light for production.
