Lamborghini reveals latest limited-edition Gallardo - a rear-wheel-drive convertible

Lamborghini has revealed a new Gallardo supercar - the LP550-2 Spyder.

It is the latest in a line of special edition Gallardos and is essentially a Spyder convertible version of the Gallardo LP550-2 Valentino Balboni, which was named after the company’s legendary test driver and launched in 2009.

Dropping the standard car's four-wheel-drive system, it is the first rear-wheel drive Lamborghini convertible since the Diablo SV Roadster in the late 1990s.

Power comes from the same 542bhp 5.2-litre V10 engine as the Balboni edition, with a six-speed E-gear automated manual transmission. Lamborghini quotes a 0-60mph time of 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 198mph. By comparison, the hard-top LP550-2 does 199mph.

Lamborghini says that the new model has unique suspension settings and also updated aerodynamics.

There's no official on-sale date, but the Gallardo LP550-2 Spyder is expected to go on sale in the middle of 2012 with a price tag of around £160,000. An all-new Gallardo is expected to be revealed in 2013.

What a nice car. Love the blue...and I think it would look great in the garage next to a red 458 Italia convertible....lol....I'm workin on it.

Nice but Completely Defunct

A very nice car but why on earth would anyone waste £160k when the all new replacment comes out next year? Imagine picking up a new 430 when you could have a had a 458?
