Kia is planning a sporting revolution with a new cabriolet inspired by the MX-5 and aimed at the likes of the Nissan 370Z and Audi TT Roadster.
The news broke at the 2010 New York Motor Show, where the firm pulled the wraps from a new saloon that will take the place of the Magentis in the firm's line up.
Kia has made no secret of its sports car ambitions in recent years, most recently pulling the wraps from the Ray (pictured) concept car at the Chicago Motor Show, earlier this year.
Few details are available, but the car would most likley use the Hyundai Genesis Coupé's rear wheel drive platform, and be powered by a 280bhp turbocharged petrol engine.
A concept is likley later this year.

I welcome any new sports car to the ranks, but having driven and owned MX-5's since 93', I have my doubts as to the viability of any challengers to this iconic classic.
The use of the Genesis Coupe chassis leads me to believe, that this won't be a direct competitor to the MX-5, but slotted some where between the MX-5 and the 370Z.
Curious to see what they come up with though.

A challenger to the MX-5 or the Nissan 370Z, are you joking? It might look the part but this is still a cheaply made Korean car. They are not yet experienced enough to better Mazda and Nissan! People will still shy away from Kia when you see some of their past cars. A Hyundai MX-5/370Z challenger anybody?
