Subaru's widebody rally star for the road

New Impreza gets big boost to looks - plus a huge rear wing!

Impreza STi

March 2010

The wing is back! Subaru has finally pulled the wrpas from its latest Impreza WRX STI.

The big news is that this new high performance version, badged STI will get a huge rear wing, inspired by the Impreza WRC car used in the firm’s now-defunct rally programme.

Powered by a flat four cylinder, turbocharged boxer engine, the car will develop 305bhp - and will be one of the fastest Imprezas ever built.

Capable of sprinting from 0-60mph in less than five seconds, the car will hit a top speed of 160mphmph.

Like its lesser siblings, the new Subaru will channel it's power to the road through a six speed gearbox, and a permanent four-wheel drive system.

A new front limited slip differential will help improve cornering speed and grip, while stiffer, lower suspension offers improved stability in corners.

There's no word as to when the car will go on sale in the UK. However, when it does, Subaru fans will be spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing a high performance Subaru.

The firm has also released details of a new 395bhp Cosworth-tuned Impreza. Click here to find out more.

Almost there...

Sheesh... that is one mighty ugly back end; might as well be off a prius. If they bring it out in the UK and cover the road tax I'll happily get rid of my hatch for one of these.

POWER!!!! OVERSTEEEEEEER!!!!!!!!!

Look forward to seeing this Subaru going head to head with some of the over-expensive exotica on sale...

Will be interesting to see what is faster from A-B over a mythical and de-restricted mountain pass?

Impreza Sti v 911C4 S v R8 V8 v Lotus Evora.

and then maybe a test with the following:

Cosworth Impreza v GTR v 911 Turbo v R8 V10 v Lambo V10.
