Leaked images of Toyota's US youth brand's version of the Toyota FT-86

It was meant to be kept a secret...but the Scion FR-S is out of the bag! Leaked images appeared ahead of the car's unveiling at the New York Motor Show.

Scion is Toyota's US market youth brand and it has prepared a special version of the upcoming FT-86 coupe. Featuring a new nose and rear end it's another development of the FT-86 concept which initially appeared back in 2009.

 

This latest model gets a Maserati GranTurismo-style front end, dropping the LED headlights of the FT-86 while at the rear is an even more dramatic diffuser. Under the bonnet lies the same 2.0-litre 'boxer' engine – that's because the project is a joint venture with Subaru.

The engine drives the rear wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Sales of the new Toyota coupe, whether badged Scion or otherwise, should start late next year.
