Kia has done some Soul searching, and come up with this! The quirky crossover has been given a mid-life facelift, and was unveiled at the New York Auto Show alongside the US only Rio saloon. The refreshed 2012 Soul gains updated technology, design and powertrains, including a new 1.6-litre 133bhp petrol unit.
On the outside the Soul receives projector headlights with thick LED daytime running lights under the main lamps, new front and rear bumpers, a restyled bonnet and tweaked tail lights.
The Soul also gains a raft of options including a premium pack that includes a heavy duty sound system, a hands-free kit, heated front seats, leather trim, climate control and satellite navigation. Air conditioning, electric windows, a 12 volt power supply and folding rear seats come as standard.
As for engines, the 1.6 now develops 11 percent more power than its predecessor, while returning better fuel economy, thanks to a fresh six-speed gearbox, which the company promises will significantly improve fuel economy while lowering C02 emissions.
According to Kia’s Michael Sprague, “After just two model years, we’ve given the 2012 Soul significant improvements in power, style and fuel economy, making this iconic vehicle the perfect package for consumers looking for something a little outside the box.” The new Soul will arrive in UK showrooms in September.
