A fire has been lit under the new Focus! An inside source at Ford has confirmed that a hot ST version of the all-new hatchback will break cover at the Paris Motor Show in October, alongside full production versions of the five-door and estate models.
Rumours have been circulating for some time about when the first new-generation fast Focus would rear its head, but only now do fans of high-performance cars have a date to put in their diary.
Back in March, Ford’s product development boss, Derrick Kuzak, revealed that the all-new Focus ST “will get an EcoBoost turbocharged engine, be exciting to drive, great to look at and certainly worth waiting for”. That suggests the outgoing car’s thirsty 2.5-litre engine is to be replaced by a more efficient 2.0-litre direct-injection turbo unit.
Precise power outputs have yet to be confirmed, but the 2.0-litre EcoBoost – already offered with 200bhp in the S-Max, Galaxy and Mondeo – could easily produce 250bhp and 350Nm of torque. That would pitch the ST squarely at Renaultsport’s Mégane 250, yet still leave room for a 300bhp-plus RS version later in the car’s life cycle.
The hot Ford is expected to be even faster than the super-quick Mégane, delivering 0-62mph in around six seconds and a 155mph top speed. But the ST’s trump card will be its ability to blend this pace with class-leading efficiency. Likely combined economy of 35mpg and 187g/km CO2 emissions would eclipse the 30mpg and 224g/km figures of the current ST by some margin.
In corners, clever torque vectoring software will juggle power between the front wheels to exploit every ounce of grip available to the new model. A variety of driving modes will alter throttle response and steering weight, depending on the driver’s personal preferences.
The Focus five-door hatch and estate are scheduled to go on sale in April 2011, with the ST version due later in the year.

I'm the current Focus Si driver, love the car with exception to some minor critism. When i look at the new concept Merc A1, Megan C4. I ask myself what would really wanna drive me to buying this car? If you already a driver of a model, you expect better looks not a step backwards. Since i was hoping to drive a perfomance model when it hit the market, i'm guessing it wont be a Ford....atleast not this Focus.....Its an acquired taste!
I love Fords...I've even had the Ford ST...but firstly 'Racing Stripes"....I think now are over/ passe. Decals are cool...but come up with something new Ford...and secondly...we've got the RS...so unfortunately.. i think many enthusiasts are only mildly interested in the coming of the ST...it's like "yeah, so what?'...a lil sad?
we had a focus st in asbo and the Wolf stripes, looked the part, but I agree with Badboyrocco about the stripes now and I think the next ST we get, I'd go for white with large checkers faded ove the back.
The asbo was a cracking car, but with the sound of the engine roar, it just encouraged you to blip the accelerator. It was a great grand touring car, regularly drove down to the south coast of spain or around europe in it and regularly did 800 to a 1000 miles in a day in it, without any problems. Well, we did have a little glitch ini Italy when the cam belt tensioning bracket broke, which basically blew the engine. Opps, then the fun came in getting home etc etc what a nightmare, but we were determined to finish the holiday and it almost got so bad it became funny - full log at www.ukray.com/drive if you fancy a laugh at our expense.
Fuel wise, on the tours roung europe, we were normally getting about 28mpg, so not too bad, but improvements would be helpful.
As previously mentioned, GT stripes are so yesterday. Move the game on Ford.
Chavtastic!
those stripes are just superimposed on the car look closely and you'll see they dont really follow the shadows on the rest of the car. i'd be surprised if ford revealed it with stripes.
I wanna know when the Fiesta ST returns as well as this.
Although it's only gonna be a concept at first, will the new Focus ST look any different to the standard models?
