Facelifted Mazda2 revealed

Paris debut for revised, leaner, greener Mazda supermini.

August 2010

Meet the new-look Mazda2. The Japanese firm pulled the wraps off its tweaked supermini at the Paris show.

The most obvious difference is the new nose, which features the signature Mazda smiley face that debuted on the latest Mazda3 and Mazda5. The firm has also turned its attention to improving the quality of the interior.

The more major alterations have taken place underneath. The firm promises a fully Euro V-compliant engine line-up, tweaks to the chassis to improve ride comfort and a new automatic gearbox option.

The new Mazda2 debuted alongside the new Mazda5, which uses the firm’s new 113bhp 1.6-litre diesel engine. The unit replaces the 2.0-litre diesel, and returns 54.3mpg, and cuts carbon dioxide emissions by 15 per cent. The new diesel engine will also be shown in the Mazda3.

Another gormless corporate look

Why do all cars belonging to a manufacturer have to adopt the same styling? Mazda seemed to have ruined the styling of quite a few of its models with a stupid smiling grill.
Styling apart, I wouldn't give them one penny of my money after an appalling experience I had with a new MX5 - don't believe everything you read in customer surveys - it was the worst car ownership experience I've had in over 20 years of driving.

Hmmmm!

This looks like a shorter version of the new Mazda 6! Why do manufacturers make the same mistake as Ford and make their entire range of cars look the same. Try and differentiate the models by thinking of varying the shape of your range of cars. To many cars look alike these days.

...so, a re-skinned Fiesta, then? Agree with gavsmit...what's with the smiley grill? Peugeot have just got rid of theirs at last, thanks to severe protestations from consumers.

What was wrong with the original??

Oh no, not another Fish faced Mazda!!
I know Mazda are trying to be generic with the whole of their car range but did Mazda really have to facelift the car?? It has already had a distinguished look since the first version came out.

Stop Moaning

Look at this fantastic car!!! So the nose follows the same look as other Mazdas. Do we all totally have to throw all our toys out of our prams over it? It still looks pretty cool, and I for one would choose the revised version over the previous version every time. Just for the better economy, and better ride. Everything else about the 2 was already excellent over all its rivals, except for the Fiesta, which just pips the drive of the 2, but it's a very close call, as the Fiesta and the 2 share the same chassis. The 2 is probably gonna be the tougher car in the long run.
Why us Brits have just gotta focus on the parts we don't like, as though we are a nation of whining, spoilt and childish folk. It's a mass production car. We cant expect to have everything just so can we?
The 2 is really a great car. It's cheaper to buy goes quicker and drives a lot better than the Hyundai i20 1.4i. But we all accept the Hyundai as it is, even though it's horrid compared to the 2

Well said leothelion
I too will be trading in my 2 for the updated one for the same reasons,if anyone wants to complain about facelifts take a look at the new corsa twice the size snout and covered in garish chrome it too looks like it's bigger brother the astra, the mazda is lean & clean and better proportioned in comparison.
