Meet the two-wheeled future of MINI! Following hot on the heels of the Countryman and the Moke comes this - a plug-in electric scooter concept that premiered at the Paris Motor Show, and go head-to-head with a similar concept produced by rivals Smart.
Called the MINI E Scooter Concept, the bike features scaled down versions of all the classic MINI design cues, including the large iconic speedometer, oval wing mirrors and squared off rear lights. The use of chrome and other material is also designed to make the scooter instantly recognisable as a part of the MINI family.
The grey and luminous green colour scheme is borrowed from the MINI E electric car, and so is the drivetrain: a single electric motor is integrated into the rear wheel, and power comes from a compact lithium-ion battery stored under the seat. The battery can be charged from any standard A/C power outlet, via a retractable cable at the back of the scooter.
If the E Scooter receives a positive reaction at the show, then there is a strong possibility that it could make production, and become the smallest MINI yet!

"In another shock move for the brand, MINI will debut a two-wheeled electric concept at Paris."
Anyone actually suffering from shock should seek help !
Come on Auto Express !! who writes this 1970's " The Sun" stuff
well they have made a crossover mini so what should stop them making a scooter. i believe the whole idea of the mini should be that its nippy, cute and funny to look at, and ideally small, otherwise hardly the point in calling it a "mini". i think mini need to diversify into other product offers than offer just a small mini. i use to think a company should stick to its guns to what it knows best but in certain circumstances for a brand to survive for the future it needs to offer more of a range but within limits of course, as we don't want mini to try and offer a range rover sided off-road and still call it a MINI.
What pray tell is innovative about a scooter, a vehicle which has been around for decades? Oh, it's electric. Boo hoo. So is half the stuff in my flat. Tell you what, why don't you try and impress me when they come up with a V8 mobile phone charger. That article I'd read.
"grey and luminous green"
Looks black and yellow?
i too would like to see V8 powered house hold appliances. bring it on.
again what soooo exciting about a scooter? with some mini badges plastered all over it?
any mention of how many miles it can do between fill ups of leccy? no? prob because its about 3 miles, before it all goes flat.
last time i rode a scooter, they arent exactly expensive to fill up with juice, so unless this is exactly the same price as a normal scooter (unlikely prob 3 times the price) and does good range off the battery (unlikely), then again its another pointless fancy pants for the self righteous
I hope if they do make it they will make one without the expensive shiny bits, I could see myself on a stripped off basic version reliving my youth.
The things manufacturers will do to lower their brands MPG figure average. Perhaps Hummer should have made an electric scooter too!
Presumably you can keep this scooter in the back of your electric mini! so that when the batterys go flat in the mini and leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere you hopefully have a way of getting home!!!!!
Lambretta was a part of Innocenti when it was a part of British Leyland, where they built minis and Lambrettas' in italy. So mini and scooters' go together. mini are welcome to take me back to the swinging 60s'...............yeah baby !
johnny beat me to it. Yes its a Lambretta. Its still a hairdrier but electric this time. And why not? I had one and a mini too in the 60's and both were groovy and cool man. Alg
