New-look supercharged XKR joins the Jaguar fleet of beautiful sports cars

Jaguar has unveiled the supercharged version of its lauded redesigned XK sports car.

The R designation marks the supercharged model, though it also refers to a range of tweaks throughout the car. Not that the supercharger is to be sniffed at - it gives the 4.2 litre V8 a gigantic 420bhp, with a 0-60 time of under 4.9 seconds - not too bad for a 6-speed automatic.

The all-aluminium construction makes for a coupe 70kg lighter than the previous generation XKR, and a convertible that is all of 100kg lighter.

The XKR gets uprated springs and dampers over the standard XK, and recalibrated active suspension system to boost ride and handling, as well as an active exhaust system that changes sound depending on how you're driving it.

Aesthetically, the XKR enjoys a sportier grille and front bumper, louvred bonnet, aluminium-effect side power vents and new wheel designs. Options include keyless entry and start and automatic front lighting.

Orders are being taken from July 1st, with prices starting at £67,495.
