Aero taken to the Max

First unveiled at Geneva, the hard-top AeroMax has been given green light for production

Morgan's AeroMax given the green light for production

06th July 2006

How much would you pay for the ultimate Morgan? While the standard Aero 8 costs £62,545, the sports car has been taken to the max and given a staggering £110,450 price tag.

First unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March last year, the hard-top AeroMax was originally made as a one-off for Prince Eric Sturzda, president of Swiss bank Baring Brothers. Now, the marque has decided to put the car into limited production, with 100 examples up for grabs.

Workers at the factory in Malvern, Worcestershire, will start making the AeroMax in January 2008, finishing only one or two cars per week. The final model won’t be signed off until 2009 to coincide with Morgan’s centenary. Penned at the University of Coventry Automotive Design School, the newcomer is based on the same chassis as the Aero 8, but has greater practicality. The bootlid offers gullwing openings, giving access to a large flat load area behind the seats. The Aero-Max has the same 4.4-litre BMW V8 as the Aero 8, and should sprint from 0-60mph in around 4.5 seconds.
