As with its predecessor, the Targa features a clever sliding two-piece glass roof to ensure a light and airy cabin. And when the weather permits, owners can retract the front panel for wind-in-the-hair motoring.
The neat design slides back and forth by 50cm in only seven seconds, and can be operated at any speed. The two-layer glass panels are 1.9kg lighter than those fitted to the old model, while improved rubber seals provide better noise insulation.
An electrically operated cloth roller blind provides shade when the sun is shining, and the specially tinted glass also helps to keep the cabin cool. To boost practicality, the big rear window is hinged, allowing access to a 230-litre boot with the rear seats folded flat.
The new Targa 4 is powered by the same 325bhp 3.6-litre flat-six engine as the conventional Carrera, while the Targa 4S boasts 355bhp, thanks to the firm's larger 3.8-litre unit. This machine covers the sprint from 0-62mph in only 4.9 seconds. Buyers can also opt for the five-speed Tiptronic S transmission instead of the six-speed manual.
Both the 911 Targa 4 and 4S hit showrooms in November, priced at £70,320 and £77,370 respectively.
