JCB diesel record bid’s off to a flier

Digger giant JCB revved up for next month’s attack on the diesel land speed record when Andy Green put the challenger through its paces at RAF Wittering, Cambs, at the weekend.

For the initial shakedown, the JCB Dieselmax ran without its sleek yellow bodywork, but it wasted little time in clocking three-figure speeds. “The first test showed the car is really smooth, and even on a light throttle it already feels very quick,” reported Green.
