Britain's rural roads are under pressure from drivers using sat-nav systems to find short cuts

According to farming insurer NFU Mutual, the popularity of the GPS-based units has seen an influx of traffic on country lanes. "A high proportion of serious accidents are caused when drivers fail to appreciate that horses and tractors could be around the next corner," said a spokesman.
