Vauxhall Corsa

Wild Corsa VXR

After just launching the VXR, Vauxhall's engineers are working on a hotter flagship

The maddest, baddest Corsa ever? Having only just launched the standard car, Vauxhall is already busy putting the finishing touches to this bruiser of a flagship - which aims to leave the competition standing!

This week's mag has exclusive pictures of the new hot hatch testing near Germany's Nürburgring.

Along with the wild bodykit, a centrally mounted triangular exhaust is a neat touch, while 17-inch alloy wheels will come as standard. The car seen was undergoing aerodynamic testing, but the showroom-ready model will have integrated foglights at the front, plus even more cooling vents.

Power comes courtesy of a 1.6-litre turbo engine which sends 197bhp to the front wheels. That will give the feisty Corsa a headline-grabbing top speed of 150mph and a 0-60mph time of less than seven seconds.

After the car is unveiled in European Opel trim at the Geneva Motor Show in March next year, the Vauxhall version will go on sale a month later.

Prices have yet to be confirmed, but the three-door-only VXR is likely to cost around £15,600. A cheaper SRi variant will arrive next summer featuring a 1.8-litre 140bhp powerplant.
