More pieces of the Formula One driver swap jigsaw fell into place over the Turkish Grand Prix weekend. Toro Rosso’s Gerhard Berger has confirmed current drivers Vitantonio Liuzzi and Scott Speed are likely to be retained for 2007.
“It’s not fully decided yet, but we are quite happy with both of them,” explained the Austrian. McLaren’s Ron Dennis has also confirmed Pedro de la Rosa is likely to contest the rest of this F1 season. This scotches hopes that Brits Gary Paffett or Lewis Hamilton might be given a chance.
Meanwhile, Nelson Piquet Junior is in talks to join the Renault F1 team as its third driver next year. He will take over from Heikki Kovalainen, who is expected to be revealed as the outfit’s second man alongside Giancarlo Fisichella.
