Electronics giant Blaupunkt is the latest audio manufacturer to add USB compatibility to its range – giving you access to thousands of digital tracks on the road. Using a slot behind the facia of the new Memphis MP66, you can plug in a portable MP3 player.
The player is controlled through the stereo’s buttons and you can even upload the tracks directly into the head unit, which can handle CD, MP3 and WMA tracks. It can even display your favourite photos on the screen. However, you don’t have to own a portable music player to enjoy the Memphis – a mobile hard drive will do the same job, and is likely to store far more tracks!
An optional interface provides a Bluetooth connection and transforms the head unit into a hands-free device for your mobile phone. The plug slots into the back of the radio and includes a microphone, while incoming calls are transmitted through the car’s speakers.
There are two AUX inputs and a six-band equaliser which can set up the sound system using a microphone for the perfect acoustics in your car. The Memphis MP66 costs £299, and more details can be found at www.blaupunkt.co.uk or by phoning 01895 838880.
