Yellow cars deter thieves

You probably hate yellow but research shows vehicles this colour are least likely to suffer a break-in

12th September 2006

More than a third of motorists (39%) have had their cars stolen or broken into at least once - but only two per cent were yellow.

In contrast, one quarter of vehicles that have been stolen or broken into are blue, while 22 per cent are red.

The survey of 2,500 people by security firm Barriers Direct.com also found that 16 per cent of stolen cars or caravans are taken from driveways or right outside owner's home and that one third of respondents say they get worried or concerned if a strange car parks outside their house, especially if it's a van or lorry.
