High tech breath sniffer could keep drink-drivers off road

18th September 2006

Scientists have created a device that sniffs alcohol on a driver's breath and can get their car stopped remotely.

The kit comes from US firm CTI, which has integrated a 'sniffer', tracking device and immobiliser into one unit. If the sniffer alerts CTI's operations centre, it notifies the registered owner, who can ask for the car to be immobilised. Priced £155, it's aimed at the parents of teenage drivers.
