New seat law

The Government's new child seat rules, which have caused widespread confusion, won't affect thousands of children after all - as they're too tall!

Official guidelines, which came into effect last week, force youngsters up to the age of 12 back into booster seats, but only if they stand less than 135cm tall.

Yet according to DepartĀ­ment for Health research on average heights, most children are that tall just after their ninth birthday - three years earlier!
