Gas-powered BMW 7

This BMW is the world's first luxury car to use hydrogen power

Fuel cell future: Hydrogen 7-Series and...

Its clever 260bhp 12-cylinder engine switches between conventional petrol and hydrogen power at the flick of a switch
We spied the Hydrogen 7 undergoing final testing in Issue 926, and BMW has confirmed that its zero-emission limo is set to hit the road.

The lack of hydrogen garages - there are only a few in the whole of Europe - needn't put off buyers, either. Its clever 260bhp 12-cylinder engine switches between conventional petrol and hydrogen power at the flick of a switch. The dual-fuel unit propels the car from 0-62mph in only 9.5 seconds, and on to an electronically limited top speed of 143mph. The new saloon is likely to debut at the Paris Motor Show, but prices have yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, GM is pushing on with plans for the world's first production fuel cell vehicle. It's turned its Chevrolet Sequel concept from the 2005 Detroit Motor Show into a driveable prototype. Capable of 0-60mph in 10 seconds and with a 300-mile range, the crossover MPV will go on sale in the US next year.
