Developments and predictions for the used car industry

25th September 2006

Here’s one supermarket with a car park that’s always full! With up to 500 used and nearly new vehicles in stock at the new five-acre Mega-Car site (www.mega-car.com) in Peterborough, Cambs, buyers have even greater choice. More centres may follow.

SUNDAY Car Fairs, which arranges weekend sales for used motors, has a new, bigger site in Plymouth. As we revealed in Issue 892, vendors pay £20 to take their motor along. It’s listed on the website at www.sundaycarfairs.co.uk and buyers come to the venue to do the deal.

MORE choice and lower prices – that’s what’s lying in store for nearly new shoppers in the future. Increased competition among franchised garages is on the cards, according to an industry report out this week. On average, dealers earn as much as 18 per cent of their profits from used vehicles, while new sales account for only four per cent.
