Fees for MoTs are about to pass the £50 mark for the first time - and computerisation of the test is to blame.
MoT Trade Forum chairman Jim Punter claims the new online system adds up to eight minutes to test times. "This has forced many centres to employ extra staff," he said.
The 14 per cent rise, to come into force next month, will push the cost of a test up from £44.15 to £50.35.
