A dash-mounted camera to stop lorry drivers dozing at the wheel has been launched. The Siemens VDO unit measures their rate of blinking, and if it slows, the seat shakes and an alarm sounds.
But sleep expert Dr Louise Reyner, from Loughborough University in Northants, told us: "It won't work. Eyelid movement is not a reliable indicator. Some drivers nod off with their eyes open." One lorry crash in three in the UK is sleep related.
