The Ultra's one of nine new models to be launched by the firm in the UK by 2011.
The covers came off the WTCC Ultra concept at the Paris Motor Show, and the styling gives a strong indication of what buyers can expect from the next-generation Lacetti. What's more, bosses say the five-door reveals the design direction to be taken by all future Chevrolet models.
Due to be unveiled in autumn 2008, the new Chevy will see the firm leave its Daewoo roots behind and tackle Ford's Focus head-on for the first time.
Taking inspiration from Vauxhall's Corsa and Astra, the concept has large angular headlights reaching up the front wings. The rising waistline gives it a muscular look, while the SEAT-style concealed rear door handles make the WTCC Ultra seem more like a coupé.
Developed in the UK, the car show-cases a new 200bhp 2.0-litre diesel powerplant set to be offered in a high-performance version of the next Lacetti.
Among the other new Chevys on the way are a right-hand-drive version of the Camaro muscle car in 2009 and a range of off-roaders and MPVs from the US. A facelifted version of the Kalos supermini will go on sale in October.
