Cat's eyes left in dark

It's the end of the road for cat's eyes, after experiments proved 'active' studs are safer

Experts at the Trans­port Research Laboratory in Berkshire found hi-tech illuminated eyes give a clearer picture of bends than traditional markers, which only reflect light. In trials near Barry, South Wales, 200 solar-powered studs helped reduce accidents by 72 per cent. Now, the Department for Transport has approved them for all roads.
