Lexus sales boom

Sales of Lexus cars in the UK have rocketed - and it's all thanks to its hybrids. The environmentally friendly RX400h and GS450h models account for 25 per cent of vehicles leaving its dealers.

In the first nine months of 2006, the firm shifted nearly 12,000 cars - beating its previous best, for the whole of 2001. UK director Steve Settle claimed: "To achieve record sales in a declining market is a very strong endorsement."
