Executives have told us: "We'll fill that gap." A replacement for the people carrier is due to appear in 2008, but it is now likely to be joined by a compact seven-seat machine to rival models such as the Renault Grand Scenic and Vauxhall Zafira.
SEAT global marketing director Jörn Hinrichs said the company has spent the past few months planning how to increase its portfolio. He also drew attention to the absence of a compact SUV in the range, adding: "There are some bland vehicles out there in that segment, and I think SEAT could produce one which would be true to our sporty brand image."
A low-volume two-seater, designed to boost SEAT's appeal, is also likely. "We have a seven-model range now, but in 10 years' time I expect it will go up to 10, 11 or even 12 vehicles," predicted the marketing chief.
