With a large lower air intake and prominent oval badge at the front, it signals a real change in style compared to the ungainly Terracan. And it's the same story inside, where the Korean company's bosses boast that there is even more space than in the Mercedes GL. To back up this claim, the go-anywhere Veracruz will offer seven seats as standard fit, thanks to a split-folding third row of chairs.
With an all-new 240bhp 3.0-litre V6 diesel powerplant under its shapely bonnet, plus a clever all-wheel-drive set-up, the newcomer is set to steal sales from unleaded-only competitors such as Nissan's Murano and the Subaru Tribeca.
Buyers will also get the option of a 3.8-litre V6 petrol motor mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Veracruz will go on sale in the UK next year, with prices from around £20,000.
