Go against the flow

Runners turn back on risks of traffic

If you're a roadside jogger, make sure you run against the traffic flow

Joggers are running dangerously

23rd October 2006

Fitness fanatics could be running into danger. The AA Trust has warned that joggers who run with the flow of traffic, rather than against it, are twice as likely to be killed or seriously injured in an accident.

In 2004, 5,566 pedestrians, including runners, were killed on UK roads - and 10 per cent had their backs to the traffic.

On a security note, police organisations recommend pedestrians walk against the traffic flow, so cars cannot creep up undetected behind you.
