How do you top a Bentley Azure? Simple - give it a roof! Auto Express has learned that the famous British luxury car maker has secret plans to build a coupé version of its flagship drop-top. In a move that would complete the Arnage range, the firm will reveal a coupé concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Due to its lighter weight, the Coupe's performance would eclipse that of the Azure, with 0-60mph expected to take less than six seconds and a top speed in excess of 180mph
Called the Havana, it will give super-rich buyers a good idea as to how a future flagship coupé could look. As with the Azure, the Havana will be based on the same chassis as the Arnage luxury saloon, offering two doors and space for four inside.
Under the bonnet will be the latest generation of Bentley's twin-turbo 6.75-litre V8. The engine has been uprated to 500bhp and is mated to a new six-speed automatic gearbox.
Due to its lighter weight, the Coupe's performance would eclipse that of the Azure, with 0-60mph expected to take less than six seconds and a top speed in excess of 180mph. The addition of a fixed roof would stiffen the chassis and provide better handling.
With an on-sale date of 2008 and a £225,000 price, the Havana is set to battle it out with the production version of Rolls-Royce's 101EX coupé concept, which arrives at the same time.
