With a 300bhp turbocharged engine plus an F1-style paddleshift gearbox, SEAT's latest competition-prepared Leon Cupra will be faster than the previous Leon Cupra R.
As in previous seasons, the series will feature on the high-profile BTCC support bill, and the winner will pocket £100,000 – one of the biggest prizes in British motorsport. The Cupra Championship was designed as a final stepping stone to the BTCC for young racers, and 2004 title winner Rob Huff has gone on to be a winner in the premier series.
Meanwhile, tin-top star Jason Plato could race alongside fellow countryman James Thompson next year. Thommo has been a part of SEAT’S World Touring Car Championship team this season, but it is slimming its six-car squad down to four, and despite being a contender for the series title, the Yorkshireman is likely to be one of the casualties. This season he combined his WTCC commitments with occasional BTCC outings, winning three rounds in the UK and finishing sixth overall in the championship.
