By adding its Evo know-how to the basic Mitsubishi Outlander, due on sale in the UK in 2007, the Japanese firm has created the appropriately named Evolander.
The supercharged machine has a 3.0-litre engine and 300bhp, all of which is transferred into the dirt using the latest electronic all-wheel-drive transmission.
With massive 20-inch wheels under the flared wheelarches, plus toughened suspension, the car promises grip levels to rival the legendary Lancer. And to make sure you can't miss the fact that Mitsubishi's latest SUV has been given the sports treatment, there's also a full Evo-style bodykit to get to grips with.
At the front of the Evolander a new, deeper radiator grille feeds air to the supercharger. A roof-mounted wing, plus bumper-fitted twin exhaust pipes, are to be found at the back of the car.
Mitsubishi currently has no plans to offer the wild-looking machine to the public, and so it will stay on the drawing board - for the time being at least.
