The truck that can't crash!

A "virtual safety belt" has been wrapped round a massive HGV to showcase the technologies that could be used to cut truck accidents. The standard Volvo has been packed with gadgets that wouldn't be out of place in a sci-fi film.

It can "see" obstacles in the road and apply the brakes automatically, as well as monitor lanes using cameras and location sensing so it doesn't drift into cars travelling alongside. And the driver gets alerts when near bends and accident blackspots. The prototype is set to go on test on public roads.
