Ferrari's Dino is reborn

One of the most emotive supercar badges in history is making a comeback - and it looks set to bring Ferrari thrills to the mass market. Yes, the Dino is ready to return!

The car in this week's mag looks like an F430, but it's much more than that. It has a chopped-down look, shortened wheelbase and makeshift vents that show it's a mule for Ferrari's next new model. Enthusiasts have been hopeful of the return of one of the most distinctive Maranello cars for some time, and there's been plenty of speculation about the Dino's comeback.

Reviving the famous name is a bold move, but it will allow Ferrari to appeal to new customers. Expected to be based on the same platform as Maserati's forthcoming new Coupé, the Dino will become the entry-level Ferrari.

While the original Dino was powered by a V6, its successor will get a mid-mounted 400bhp V8. With development work only just beginning, the newcomer isn't set to arrive until 2009.
