Kia's cee'd estate unearthed

There's no doubt about it - Kia's cee'd is growing! With the Korean firm pulling the wraps off its production-ready, Ford Focus-rivalling hatchback at September's Paris Motor Show, its attention is now turning to an estate.

These spyshots show development of the load-lugging variant is on schedule for a launch next year. Although this model is heavily disguised, it's clear that many of the details displayed on the SW estate concept - which was also unveiled at the French expo - have remained intact.

At the front, the newcomer is identical to the five-door hatch, but at the back, it's very different. Key styling cues include the rising shoulderline, which spears upwards at 45 degrees from the rear door to meet the roofline, creating neat, triangular quarterlights. Sharp-edged tail-lights, stretching up to the roof, finish off the look.

Because it has the same wheelbase as the hatchback, but with a body length of 4,470mm, customers can ex­pect the estate's boot space to compete against that of mainstream rivals such as the Focus and Vauxhall's Astra.

Kia is also expected to offer a range of neat partitioning solutions to make the most of the available capacity, plus there's even scope for a clever underfloor compartment to be installed. Five engine choices will be available - likely to be three petrols and two diesels - plus three trim levels.

The five-door cee'd is set to arrive inFebruary 2007 with a three-door following in September, and the estate due by the end of the year. Expect prices to start at around £12,500.
