Kite plan plea

Kitemark should be used for garages, too, say motorists

21st November 2006

New research shows more than 80 per cent of drivers recognise the famous BSI 'kitemark', and even more believe it offers an assurance of excellence when it comes to fixing cars. A huge 66 per cent said that they wanted to see the logo adopted by all approved garages. The seal of the British Standards Institute, the kitemark is currently being embraced by the automotive aftermarket industry.

At present, there's no single code of conduct - an approval process followed by regular checks. But now the Office of Fair Trading is working on one with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, and the Retail Motor Industry Federation.
