A new braking system could end the adoption of hydraulics

Car makers are lining up to try new brakes that could signal the end of hydraulics. The ElecĀ­tronic Wedge Brake turns pedal pressure into an electric current to control two small motors behind each wheel.

These make a wedge to push the brake pad against the rim. German inventor Siemens claims the system gives drivers more control.
