However, the German brand is also being very careful to keep potential buyers partly in the dark with the image on the www.porsche.com/uk website. It reveals the new Cayenne range for the first time but, as you can see, the picture has been taken at night. Thanks to the glare of the headlights, though, we can make out some of the major changes which have been made to the 4x4's front end. And, in response to criticisms of the current model, Porsche's designers have created a much more stylish face.

Key improvements include revamped headlights, which have become much more dramatic and feature integrated indicators. Below them sits a restyled bumper incorporating redesigned slats, air intakes and fresh spotlights.
Changes are also in store at the rear. New tail-lamps will be added, complete with intricate LED units, as well as a smoother bumĀper and a neat roof spoiler. Inside, there's a restyled dashboard and centre console, while material quality will be improved.
Under the bonnet, the current line-up of 3.2-litre V6, 4.5 V8 and flagship Turbo engines will remain, although there is the possibility of Porsche's dual-power unit - applied to the 4.5-litre V8 model and based on Audi's Hybrid Concept system - joining the range for the first time.
With an electric motor boosting the V8's torque output by 200Nm to more than 600Nm, it would offer Turbo-style performance but return around 25mpg, nearly 10mpg more than the flagship.
If it does join the engine list, it will arrive in 2008. The rest of the new Cayenne range will go on sale - with a slight price rise - next summer.
