Hakkinen returns to McLaren hot seat

Double Formula One world champ Mika Hakkinen has hit the track again in an effort to help British rookie Lewis Hamilton

The flying Finn drove a McLaren-Mercedes alongside the 21-year-old at Barcelona in Spain.

Fernando Alonso won’t be released from his Renault contract until 1 January, so the team hopes Hakkinen, 38, will give useful feedback to develop its 2007 racer. He was only three seconds a lap slower than the day’s fastest time – not bad considering he hasn’t driven an F1 car in anger since retiring five years ago!
