Sportster fans get tread alert

It's not only old bangers which have bald tyres - research shows that more than a quarter of high-performance, low-profile rubber is also illegal.

The National Tyre Distributors' Association checked customers' cars, and found 27 per cent of rubber removed from the front had less than the legal 1.6mm of tread left.
