New slimline screens point the way forward for sat nav

By Simon McBride

12th December 2006

Check out the wide boys! Medion’s latest portable sat-nav systems all boast slimline 4.3-inch screens, giving more information to the driver without obscuring the route.

There are three new models in the revised line-up: the GoPal PNA 460, 465 and 470. All incorporate a choice of two or three-dimensional views, on-screen direction, spoken guidance and navigation display information including a compass, distance to destination and estimated time of arrival.

The 460 – which costs £199 – includes Navteq UK and Ireland mapping, an integrated music player and photo viewer. Choose the 465 and you add the integrated Traffic Message Channel to help avoid congested routes, plus pre-installed European mapping for continental driving. It is priced at £259. The flagship 470 is £299, and has all the features of the previous models, as well as 63 points of interest and a GPS-generated speedo.

All models are simply ‘plug in and drive’, and come with a mounting kit, 12V power adaptor and a rechargeable Li-ion battery which is good for up to five hours on a full charge. Additional information can be found at
